The government's director for digital engagement will retire at the end of 2010 after less than two years in the role.

Andrew Stott was appointed in May 2009 to take forward the Labour government's Power of Information agenda, and has been based in the Cabinet Office.

During a civil service career spanning 34 years he was appointed government deputy chief information in 2004, and had worked at the Department for Work and Pensions, the Post Office and HM Prison Service.

Katie Davies will take over as interim director for digital engagement. She joined the Cabinet Office's Efficiency and Reform Group in August 2010 to help to shape government's approach to improving efficiency across Whitehall.

She was previously the executive director of strategy for the Identity and Passport Service.

"Leading the work on government transparency and digital engagement, as well as launching Data.gov.uk has been a tremendous final phase of my long career in the civil service," said Stott.

"I am proud that Data.gov.uk and its community of developers and supporters will continue to develop and grow into the future."
