LG takes Optimus into Android prime time

LG Electronics today launched two new member for the Optimus smartphone series - but only one is coming to the UK.

Marketed for first-time smartphone users, the LG Optimus One and Optimus Chic use Froyo, the latest Android 2.2 platform, to enable faster browsing and smoother multitasking.

Both phones feature the ability to create portable Wi-Fi hotspots for multiple devices to share a single 3G connection.

LG Optimus One

The LG Optimus One (pictured right), comes with a 3.2in HVGA screen and a 1500mAh battery that provides more than seven hours talk time. The device includes "App advisor", a tool that recommends ten highly rated apps every two weeks.

The LG Optimus Chic is a minimalist phone supplied with touch-sensitive buttons. A unique on-screen feature allows users to remotely control the device from their PC. The handset is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) -compatible, and content is easily shared with other DLNA devices such as TVs, AV systems and laptops.

The LG Optimus One will hit the streets in the UK during October. The Optimus Chic is not launching in the UK - our LG contacts wer unable to tell us why not - but ships to the rest of Europe in November.
