There's a retail download opprtunity for that

IDF Dixons is launching an app store for netbooks, tablets and laptops early in November.

The store is a rebranded version of Intel's AppUp offering, launched last year and going live today.

Dixons' version will be branded PC World and Currys - one for each chain, presumably - with a shortcut to the web-based store pre-loaded on the retailer's own PC line, Advent.

This is not the UK's most popular PC brand, it's true, but it's a start.

And just as, in the US, Samsung will soon pre-load laptops with a link to Best Buy's branded version of AppUp, we'll probably see big vendors in the UK do the same too.

AppUp targets Intel's Atom processor, whether it's running Windows or MeeGo. AppUp allows users to download apps and try them for 24 hours before they need to put down money for their purchase. ®
