Google Wave limps on until year end and beyond (maybe)
Haunts interwebs for rest of 2010
Mountain View will keep its Google Wave engine running until at least the end of 2010.
The ad broker confirmed on Monday that its unpopular Wave product, which Google ditched in August, would limp on for the next few months.
"We're looking at ways to continue and extend Wave technology in other Google products, open sourcing more of our code and providing support for our loyal users and Apps customers," said Google's Lars Rasmussen in a blog post.
He added that the company would not suddenly kill Wave.google.com, and instead said it would linger around the interwebs until at least the end of this year.
"There will be ways to export your waves before the end of the year," Rasmussen said.
Google, which last month dumped Wave because no one was tinkering with the minimalist and very shaky real-time collaboration tool, said it plans to make more announcements about the failed product in the next few weeks. ®
