Nikon has announced the sequel to its D3000 digital SLR- said to be Europe's best-selling DSLR during the first half of this year.

Nikon D3100

The D3100 ups the camera's sensor from 10Mp to 14Mp, and the max ISO from 1600 to 3200. It also gains the ability to shoot full HD - 1080p - video.

The update also add the ability to read and write to SDXC memory cards, and introduces support for EyeFi wireless SD cards.

There's no change to the 3in, 230,000-dot LCD round the back, but the new model has HDMI output too.

Nikon didn't say when the D3100 will go on sale, or how much the camera will cost when it does. We expect it next month, for around £580.
