Tweaks to the right of me, tweaks to the ...

Symantec says it's a new release but it's just tweaking: BackupExec 2010 gets faster installation through better wizards and supports SharePoint 2010.

Symantec reckons that install time is cut by a fifth. It says recovery time is also reduced because gaps in backup practises are identified by a "Product Recommendation Engine" and can be fixed. As well as SharePoint 2010, support has also been added for Exchange 2010 SP1, SQL 2008 R2, Mac OS X 10.6, VMware vSphere 4.1 and there is enhanced NDMP support.

Oh, and there is an "improved user experience" because now there is an integrated RSS reader and an in-product renewal assistant to provide updates "to ensure Symantec customers have the best set of tools to easily tune and support their backup environment."

It's all good stuff but comparatively minor. Tweaks to the right of me; tweaks to the left of me ... ®
