iTunes disses doctorates

Irate PhD demands explanation

It appears that PhDs have joined pornography and Flash on the list of things Apple doesn't approve of, if the experience of Reg reader Stuart Thomason is anything to go by.

Stuart explains:

It seems that Apple have something against those of us with higher degrees. My title on my iTunes account has always been 'Dr', but a couple of days ago I went to buy an app on my iPhone and was told that I needed to verify my account because I was "connecting from a new device". Odd, because I only ever use that same iPhone to buy stuff.

Turns out the 'title' field of my account information had been erased, and there is no longer the option to set it to 'Dr'. I have a choice of 'Mr', 'Mrs' or 'Ms'. It would not allow me to proceed until I accepted the fact that Apple don't like PhDs.

Our miffed correspondent says he contacted Apple a couple of days back to demand and explanation for the outrage, but has not yet received a reply.

We'd email Apple ourselves to get to the bottom of it, but of course The Register also features in the Church of Cupertino's Book of Devils and Demons. ®
