Voda NZ answers iPhone 4 complaint - with a song

'If you don't want an iPhone 4, don't buy it'

We have written quite enough about Vodafone New Zealand's chaotic iPhone 4 launch last week, although Reg reader and Kiwi blogger Ahmad disagrees.

He tells us that Voda NZ's iPhone 4 customers who set up FaceTime video calling are sent an SMS from the UK for a one-time fee of 20c. This is a paltry sum, but it is also a hidden charge and Ahmad thinks it's a bit rich for Vodafone to charge any amount without informing its customers first.

So he complained to the company.

Let's have Ahmad take up the story, shall we?

Matt East's response to me via the official @VodafoneNZ twitter was "It's 20c ^ME", and subsequently directing me to the music video "If you don't want an iPhone 4 don't buy it". Humorous responses for sure but I'm not sure that Apple will see them in the same light.

Quite. Apple doesn't do humour. And the iPhone 4 is a very touchy subject indeed, especially for sweaty left-handed people like me.

But we applaud Vodafone NZ for its Patch Adams approach to PR. Next stop, customer service. ®
