Samsung has decided to give away electronic copies of An Introduction To Bada, hoping that a free guide will drum up some developer interest in the platform.
The book, the only one on Bada so far, isn't even due to be published until September, but Samsung will send it free in instalments to anyone who's interested, as part of the ongoing project to pour money into Bada until it's recognised as a viable platform.
First books on a platform are notoriously bad – a decade ago Professional Symbian Programming (from Wrox) managed to be inaccurate and incomplete despite being more than a thousand pages long - but that's part and parcel of rushing into print to exploit a market demand.
We've not read the first instalment of the Introduction, but it includes a lot of background as well as step-by-step instructions on creating a first Bada application.
It's hard to imagine that people are queuing up to get their hands on An Introduction To Bada, given the platform only runs on one (high end) handset, but Samsung is spending a lot of money trying to get Bada accepted as a competitor to Symbian, Android and even iOS, and some of that cash is now going on the free copies of the book.
So if you've a passing interest in the platform then it might be worth downloading, in exchange for an email address - though you might want to hold off until we see another handset or two before you commit to paying £28.04 for the paper version. ®
