Fujifilm has taken the wraps off what it claims is the world's smallest 18x optical zoom camera.

Fujifilm S2800HD

The FinePix S2800HD is a classic bridge design that incorporates a 14Mp mechanically stabilised 1/2.3in sensor.

The lens placed before it will run from the 35mm camera equivalent of 28mm to 504mm, and F3.1-5.6. Activate the digital zoom too and the S2800HD will run to 120.6x.

The Fujifilm can record video at 720p - recorded in Motion JPEG and stored in an AVI container - and pump pictures and motion content out through an HDMI port. Or you can view them on the 3in, 230,000-dot LCD.

The whole lot is powered by four AA batteries, making for a laden weight of 437g. Fujifilm bundles a set of alkaline cells, or you can chuck in your own rechargeables. The alkalines are good for 300 shots, Fujifilm claimed.

What it didn't say: when the S2800HD will go on sale and how much it'll cost when it does. ®
