BI broken, you tell us

White paper Your data is more scattered and more inconsistent, takes too long to reach the people who need it, and is incomplete, inaccurate or out of date more often than three years ago.

That's what 239 Reg readers told Freeform Dynamics. Your problems with the information we need to run our business are the basis of our new hard-hitting white paper, titled BI 2010 - the State Of Play.

Researched by Freeform Dynamics and sponsored by Microsoft, the report blames the explosion of data, but also the "ambiguous and confused marketing speak" of the vendors who, you tell us, have come up with piecemeal BI tools which have not lived up to their promise.

The result: increasing complaints from your users and increasing frustration in the IT department - where more than two out of five respondents struggle to define the goals of business intelligence, work out who owns the project, assemble fragmented data, or find the applications they need.

In most areas there are more problems and less satisfaction compared to a similar study from March 2007. "This is, to be blunt, an indictment of the efforts put into new IT systems delivery – though it equally suggests that the sheer volumes of information to be dealt with are so great, perhaps it is all IT can do to keep up," the report says.

It's not all bad news, but Freeform Dynamics warns that these problems will become harder to solve without radical action to get in control of BI.

"Short-term pain today could be the difference between success and failure," it concludes.

If you are struggling with BI, this is one report you can't afford to miss. It's free to download today. Don't wait another three years. ®
