Samsung today introduced a lamp-less projector, equipped instead with an LED display.

Good for 1000 lumens of brightness, the LED source in the SP-F10M is rated at 50,000 hours' usage, Samsung claimed after noting that regular projector bulbs typically need replacing after 3000 hours' usage.

That said, it didn't indicate whether you replace the LED after 50,000 - or junk the projector and buy a new one. Still, 50,000 hours is more than five years.

And that's in "eco mode" - presumably if you run the thing at maximum brightness, you get a lot less life out of it.

The projector has a native image resolution of 1024 x 768, and HDMI inport and a USB port - it can display PDF, HTML, text, MPEG and MS Office files on memory sticks.

The whole thing measures 309 x 290 x 112mm and weighs a hefty 5kg.

There's no word yet on UK pricing and availability. ®
