iPhone 4 splashes down on both sides of the pond

Vodafone, O2 and Phones 4U have all said they'll be selling Apple's new baby by the end of the month, but no-one is talking pricing just yet.

Vodafone and O2 have both told us they'll have the iPhone 4 on sale on the 24th June, and both companies are still working on pricing and tariff options. Vodafone has already created a page where you can register your interest, while O2 claims it will make a limited-time discount available on its iPhone 4 site, so you'll have to keep checking.

Apple hasn't bothered with carrier exclusives this time around, and obviously feels that its delivery channel can supply demand (or just under demand - got to keep those headlines rolling).

US pricing, with contract subsidy, will be $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB of storage, with that price rising to $599 for an unsubsidised handset with 32GB. UK prices will depend on how much subsidy UK operators decide to apply. This will probably not be as much as AT&T is providing in exchange for its continuing exclusive, but it will be interesting to see if the price varies between operators, as O2 has hinted it will.

The phone is slimmer than its predecessors, with a higher-resolution screen and forward-facing camera for video calls (FaceTime as Apple has named it). While not very dramatic, it's a worthy successor to the line. ®
