Halo: Reach will go on sale on 14 September, Microsoft has revealed.

The latest installment in the saga is geared up for Xbox Live multiplayer gaming, pitching squads of players against the finest the Covenant can throw at them. The Aliens' goal: Earth. Only you stand in their way, etc, etc.

The Bungie-developed game will come in the obligatory multiple versions, the better to encourage the fanboys to cough up. Standard, Limited and Legendary editions will retail for £50, £60 and £100, respectively.

Standard gets you the game discs, while Limited bungs in extras - 'making of...' documentaries, presumably, though Microsoft didn't say as much. Legendary comes with those extras plus a 10in Spartan statuette.

Reserve your Legendary copy in advance, and Microsoft will send you a unlock code to release an in-game Spartan Recon Helmet. Bet you can't wait. ®
