Motorola has posted an update for its Milestone smartphone - reviewed here - taking the Android-based handset to version 2.1 of the Google operating system.

"This highly anticipated software release makes Milestone Europe’s first Qwerty smartphone to be powered by Android 2.1 in the UK," the company chirped.

The update brings such joys as animated homescreen wallpaper, the creation of up to nine homescreens, 3D album art view in the music player to match the iPhone's CoverFlow, updated Google Maps, a speech to text facility and a tweaked Facebook app.

Motorola also promised "mention of camera fix/enhancement" and "ongoing battery life optimisation".

The new firmware is available as an over-the-air download, or can be grabbed using a PC from Motorola's support site. ®
