Microsoft Research Microsoft's UK research arm in Cambridge, England is moving home after more than 10 years occupying the Roger Needham Building on J J Thomson Ave.

The company is transferring its 150 lab boffins - and up to 90 interns during the busy summer months - to Station Road in 2012 when the firm's current lease will be up.

Microsoft Research UK's deputy managing director Andrew Blake told The Register that the lab was shifting its resources to a bigger and better-equipped 83,500 sq ft office based next door to Cambridge's rail station.

Some might argue that such a strategic move could isolate the company's researchers from Cambridge's academic heart, but the decision to select new office space also arguably demonstrates Microsoft's commitment to its research team in the UK.

We asked Dr Andrew Herbert, MS Research UK's managing director, to tell us how much Microsoft had invested in the new office, but he declined to comment. ®
