A third of female students would happily top up their funds by stripping while four per cent would consider escort work as a way to make ends meet.

The findings, which will strike fear into the hearts of parents across the UK, come from a survey of 1,022 female students by temp work webwise Studentgems.

The poll found that two per cent of female students had already worked as "an exotic dancer" to fund their studies, while 34 per cent would certainly consider it.

Perversely perhaps, only three per cent would carry on once they'd left college, reinforcing the view that much of what you learn at college is not much use in the real world.

Meanwhile, while four per cent were prepared to consider escort work, and of these 11 per cent said they would consider spending the night with a client, 73 per cent said they would never consider such work. Which leaves a surprising 23 per cent not altogether sure if they were happy to trade sex for cash.

Glamour modelling was a possibility for 41 per cent of students, with 72 per cent overall saying they'd consider modelling in their underwear if they needed extra money.

The site is pitching itself as as dedicated to helping students "use your skills to make money". Though not those types of skills necessarily.

Male tech students worried that they'll be reduced to penury by graduation because they will never get exotic dancing work may be reassured that the site features case studies for programming and web design. It doesn't say if this work had to be performed in your underwear. ®
