Vodafone hands out free books

If you have the right kind of phone

Vodafone customers can get free books today, assuming they've got the right kind of handset and can find the download page.

The five titles include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, This Bleeding City and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, but you'll have to have a recent Sony Ericsson, Nokia or '360 handset (or a Blackberry 9500) to download them.

Vodafone's e-book service has been languishing since its launch almost 18 months ago, and even the official video guide suggests navigating through the alphabetical list of Vodafone services to find the e-book store, which is hardly top billing.

The service is provided in conjunction with GoSpoken, but the range of supported handsets is much smaller, which makes one wonder why Vodafone is in the business at all. Certainly the operator hasn't done much to promote the service, though perhaps today's offer will change that.

So, if you fancy a free copy of The Murder of King Tut, Twenties Girl or the other three listed above, and you happen to be a Vodafone owner with the right kind of handset, then today is your lucky day. ®
