Need a touchscreen PC you can use outdoors in the depths of Winter? Panasonic will have one for you in September.

The version of the ToughBook CF-C1 announced today sports a multi-touch screen - 12.1in, 1280 x 800 - ready to be tapped with a finger or a stylus. It'll be out in July - a generally warm month not known for the conditions Panasonic expects the version of the CF-C1 equipped with a resistive multi-touch screen that can be used with gloves to be operated in.

Both models are expected to incorporate Intel's 2.4GHz Core i5-520M processor, a range of memory and hard drive options, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1. It can be specced up with 3G connectivity too.

Rugged yet light - 1.5kg with a single, four-cell battery on board; 1.7kg with two batteries - the CF-C1 is designed to entirely withstand small drops of 76cm or less, and to ignore liquid spilled onto the keyboard.

Said battery pair provide up to ten hours' runtime, Panasonic claimed. Because it has two power packs, the machine can continue to operate when one is removed and replaced. There's a handy always-visible battery charge readout too.

Such hardiness doesn't come cheap, mind. When it ships, the CF-C1 will be priced from €1998 (£1810). ®
