Fedora 13 Alpha release delayed

Fedora Project developers said they will push back the first alpha release for Fedora 13 by one week.

In a Thursday mailing list post by Jesse Keating, Red Hat release engineer for Fedora Core, said the first alpha will be delayed to "verify blocker bug fixes and validate new builds of software necessary to fix those bugs."

Fedora is a free, community-driven Linux operating system sponsored by Red Hat where new features get bolted together before getting hardened for the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

The developers said they are confident that the fixes they have will work, but they won't have enough time to validate them by the March 2 milestone. Because Fedora is tied to Tuesday releases, that means the alpha will have to wait week until March 9 — a situation clearly aggravating to the developers judging by the alpha release go/no-go meeting chat log.

Fedora 13's release schedule wiki has been updated to reflect the change. Keating said that at this time, the team is not adjusting later milestone dates because of the delay.

Fedora 13 is scheduled for a final code freeze in late April, with a final release due May 11. ®
