The word on the street at the Berlin Film festival is that Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese may be planning to "revisit" 1976 classic Taxi Driver - either as a sequel or a remake.

Taxi Driver writer Paul Schrader dismissed the idea of a sequel in a Guardian interview back in 2006, but subsequently told the New York Post: "I was talking with Martin Scorsese about doing a sequel to Taxi Driver, where [Bickle] is older."

The rumour mill claims that the project will involve Lars Von Trier, although the Antichrist director's producing partner, Peter Aalbaek, "said rumours von Trier wanted to re-make Taxi Driver were 'rubbish'", as ScreenDaily puts it.

Scorsese - in Berlin to promote Shutter Island - did confirm that he and De Niro were planning to hook up for another mob movie. He said: "Bob De Niro and I are talking about something that has to do with that world - there's no doubt about that.

"We're working on something like that, but it's from the vantage point of older men looking back, none of this running around stuff." ®
