The 20-year-old Brazilian lass who was expelled from São Paulo's Bandeirante University for wearing a miniskirt has strutted her stuff as a Rio Carnival queen.

Geisy Arruda and her miniskirtGeisy Arruda provoked a near riot at the seat of learning last October by turning up to lectures in what fellow students considered inadequate attire (pictured). To shouts of "whore", she was escorted from the premises (see video, below) and subsequently given the boot for "flagrant lack of respect for ethical principles, academic dignity and morality".

The poor girl was later readmitted, but not before the incident provoked widespread outrage, and elevated her to national celebrity.

Yesterday, Arruda enjoyed what Reuters describes as the "last laugh". Before mounting an enormous float belonging to the Porto da Pedra samba school, she said: "What happened to me really shook people. People identified with me and have been really kind. This has made me much stronger."

Arruda interpreted Queen Elizabeth I, albeit in a dress inspired by the pink miniskirt which cased all the trouble in the first place. She descibed her costume as "a combination of Geisy and Queen Elizabeth".

Reuters notes that Arruda reportedly had around $20k-worth of nip and tuck before her Carnival debut, including liposuction and breast and buttock tweaks - common practice for Carnival queens wanting to look their best. ®
