Webcam saves stranded man
Cameras! Lights! Reaction!
This is nice. A German man stranded on sea ice was saved by a woman sitting at her PC 500km away.
The man had gone for a stroll on the beach at St. Peter-Ording, on the North Sea, near Denmark, to watch the sunset, when he got disorientated, walked onto the ice, and could not find his way back.
Facing almost certain death, he flashed his camera in the hope of attracting attention. His saviour was watching a webcam set up on the beach to view the sunsets there, when she saw the camera flashes.
She rang the police, who rang emergency services, which sent out a patrol to rescue the man in temperatures plunging to minus 20c. Very cool.
You can check out St Peter Ording's many webcams here. At time of writing, the weather looks pretty crap. So stay off the beach at sunset, OK?
