Salesforce.com is sinking its talons deeper into business applications with tools to build business rules in its Force.com platform.

The company on Wednesday is expected to roll out the Force.com Visual Process Manager, which boasts a software-free serving of graphical process design. Salesforce joins giants like IBM, Oracle, and SAP with process tools, only adding it's usual spin for online services.

The Salesforce tools are based on technology purchased from its silent acquisition of Informavores in 2009.

Salesforce users can create and manage biz processes within their current Sales Cloud 2 and Service Cloud 2 deployments or custom Force.com applications, the firm claims. Visual Process Manager will help automate specific processes like call scripting, customer issue resolution, or billing and collections, with step-by-step guidance and recommendations for the next course of action, it adds.

Visual Process Manager package includes a process designer, process wizard builder, process simulator, and real-time process engine.

The tools are available now to existing Enterprise and Unlimited Edition subscribers for an extra $50 per user per month

For what it's worth, the company claims that its cloud-based approach to rules orchestration helps businesses build apps "five times faster at half the cost" of traditional on-premise platforms like .NET, Websphere, and Lotus Notes. ®
