'Over-loud, over-long, uber-stupid'

The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has announced its nominations for the 30th Annual Razzie Awards, which will "dis-honor The Worst of the 'Uh-Ohs'" inflicted on cinemagoers during 2009.

Leading the race to mount the podium of shame is Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, described as "over-loud, over-long, uber-stupid".

The citation explains: "In addition to Worst Director and Worst Picture, the film is up for Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actress (Julie White as the stoned, screaming mother of Shia Le Bouf [sic]), Worst Screen Couple (Le Bouf and EITHER Megan Fox OR Any Transformer) and Worst Actress (Fox again, dually nominated for this film and Jennifer's Body).

Mounting a strong challenge for elevation to cinematic infamy is Land of the Lost, also with seven nods. Star Will Ferrell is up for both Worst Actor and Worst Screen Couple ("Ferrell & Any Co-Star, Creature or 'Comic Riff'") gongs, while the film itself is nominated for "Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel and Worst Supporting Actor (the screaching [sic] Jorma Taccone as the monkeylike Cha-Ka)".

El Reg's fave Razzie recipients, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, wisely kept a low profile during 2009, and have escaped nomination*, but serial offender Eddie Murphy is a good bet to take the Worst Actor title for Imagine That.

Murphy's lifelong services to bad cinema may also be honoured with the Worst Actor of the Decade crown, if he can see off a strong challenge from John Travolta.

Travolta's nomination is certainly due in large part to Battlefield Earth, which will slug it out with Freddy Got Fingered, Gigli, I Know Who Killed Me and Swept Away in the Worst Picture of the Decade category.

The glittering 30th Annual Razzie Awards will be held at Hollywood's Barnsdall Gallery Theatre at 7:30pm on Saturday, 6 March. There are full details of the nominations here. ®

* Well, almost. They're both up for Worst Actress of the Decade, pitted against heavyweight opposition in the shapely forms of Mariah Carey, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez.
