Oz's Walking With Dinosaurs touring show is one star short today after someone made off with a 1.5m-tall remote-controlled beast as the show opened in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Spokeswoman Karla Arroyo admitted that organisers hadn't got the foggiest as to how the AU$110k (£61k) creature went walkabout, but insisted that the theft hadn't affected the spectacle, since the light-fingered Mexicans had lifted the smallest of the exhibits.

Crowds can still enjoy around 10 other monsters, including Stegosaurus and T Rex, some of which reach 13 metres tall and are worth up to AU$1.1m (£614k).

Walking With Dinosaurs is based on the BBC TV series of the same name, and has been travelling the world since launching Down Under in 2007. Huge crowds have flocked to catch the show, although this is the first time anyone has taken an exhibit home with them. Arroyo concluded: "Only in Mexico..." ®
