IBM is set to buy database security firm Guardium for $225m.

The deal to acquire the 60 person firm is expected to close on Monday. Guardium was founded in Israel in 2002 before moving its headquarters to Boston, USA, a year later.

Big Blue has reportedly been courting Guardium since January, eventually offering a sweet-enough deal for the database security firm to agree on tying the knot. Israeli daily Haaretz reports that the price was more than Big Blue initially wanted to pay.

IBM has made other forays in the internet security market of late, most significantly with the $1.3bn purchase of intrusion detection firm Internet Security Systems in 2006.
