ARM has unveiled a place where Android developers can help each other be Android developers.

The chip designer calls this place The Solution Center for Android, boasting that "more than" 35 ARM-friendly developers have already joined the fun.

Android - Google's open source mobile stack - was originally written for an ARM-based Qualcomm chipset, and today, ARM chips sit at heart of the big-name Android phones from the Motorola Droid to the HTC Hero. Separate from Google's handset efforts, the OS is also running various ARM-based netbooks - though ARM folk insist on calling them smartbooks.

The Solution Center for Android - SCA, as ARM calls it - is a place for sharing development tools, Android software components and services, training materials, and full-fledged Android device designs.

Since Google open sourced the Android code, it's been ported to Intel's Atom and the MIPS architecture. Working in tandem with various partners - including Mentor Graphics and the Open Embedded Software Foundation (OESF) - MIPS Technologies intends to create standardized Android platforms for various consumer electronics devices, including set-top boxes, digital TVs, mobile internet devices (MIDs), home media players, and VoIP systems.

Mentor is also among the list of (more than) 35 outfits involved with ARM's SCA. Other names include Texas Instruments and Archos. ®
