Strike a line through that Wii HD request on your Christmas list, because Nintendo has categorically denied that a next generation version of the console is in development.

Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo America, said during a recent interview that “there is no Wii HD”.

Many in the gaming world have previously claimed that Nintendo will create an HD version of the Wii. For example, Michael Pachter, an analyst at investment house Wedbush Morgan, predicted in May 2009 that the videogame giant with launch a next-gen Wii in 2010.

But that simply isn’t the case, according to Fils-Aime, who also told website Game Trailers: “Michael continues to be the only one who believes this is going to happen.”

Fils-Aime didn’t make any reference to recent comments by Dan Rayburn, Executive VP of streamingmedia.com, though, who last month wrote on a personal blog that Nintendo will launch a Wii HD unit in “early 2010”.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata recently admitted that the company can't ignore the capabilities of all those HD TVs in peoples homes and it would not "swim against the tide". ®
