Mozilla Labs has released a new version of Jetpack, just two months after the last iteration of its Firefox web extensions package landed.

Jetpack 0.6 comes loaded with two major APIs, said Mozilla. One is a secure preferences system and the other allows coders to add and modify menus.

The experimental project began life in May this year and was created for developers with HTML, JavaScript and CSS standard web skills to make add-ons for Mozilla’s popular open source browser, Firefox.

“With these new APIs - and the numerous bug fixes since the last release - we hope to see even more innovative Jetpacks in addition to the hundreds already written,” enthused Mozilla in a blog post penned on Sunday.

In September Mozilla Labs launched a version of Jetpack, dubbed the “bootstrap edition”, just a few days after Google opened up support for extensions in its Chrome browser. That iteration of Jetpack was launched to make the installation process easier for coders. ®
