Asus has forecast that sales of all-in-one PCs will soon overtake those of traditional desktop PCs.

Eric Lee, Manager of Asus’ Eee Top all-in-one PC range, told Register Hardware today that the “all-in-one PC will replace the traditional desktop within the coming years”.

Although unwilling to state exactly when all-in-one PC popularity will reign supreme, he let slip that prices of such machines will fall considerably over the next three years.

All-in-one PC popularity will also increase, Lee claimed, because such machines supposedly look better than traditional desktops, often featured touch-sensitive displays and hide a myriad of connection cables around the rear.

But Lee added that not every traditional desktop PC buyer will be swayed into purchasing an all-in-one.

Hardcore gamers will continue to opt for desktop PCs because “right now, all-in-one PCs don’t have the solutions that they [hardcore gamers] demand”, he said. ®
