MSI has expanded the super-thin, super-lightweight notebook category with the launch of its latest model – the X400.

MSI's latest slim and portable notebook: the X400

The notebook’s 1500g weight – which includes a four-cell battery – and 9mm thickness make the X400 “one of” the slimmest and most stylish notebooks available with a 14in display, MSI claimed.

Two X400 SKUs are available: the X400-038UK, which comes with Intel’s Centrino ULV SU3500 1.4GHz processor and an external optical drive, or the X400-074UK – which features Intel’s 1.3GHz SU2700 processor but lacks an optical drive bundle.

The X400-038UK also has a 500GB HDD, compared to the X400-074UK’s 320GB storage capacity.

Elsewhere both X400 models are identical, MSI stressed. For example, the machine’s 16:9 aspect ratio display provides a 1366 x 768 resolution and sound is supplied through two integrated speakers.

MSI has also built an HDMI port into the X400, enabling you to hook the machine into a larger HD-ready display.

Speaking of connectivity, the X400 jacks wirelessly onto the web over 802.11 a/g/n Wi-Fi. Bluetooth connectivity and a two-in-one memory card reader provide alternative ways of transferring data between, say, your PC and digital camera.

Elsewhere on the X400 you will find a 1.3Mp webcam, two USB 2.0 ports and a headphone jack. The machine runs on Windows Vista Home Premium.

MSI’s X400 is available now in two finishes – “piano black” or “pearl white”. The X400-038UK is priced at £569 ($921/€628), while the X400-074UK costs £499 ($807/€550). ®
