A futuristic handset with transparent display has been caught on video.

The phone, known as the Xperia Pureness, has been designed by Sony Ericsson and is set to appear in stores around the world later this year.

Still images of the device first came to light late last week, but until now no one – bar a lucky few – had ever seen Pureness working, leading many to believe that the phone was just a non-functioning concept.

However, the video takes things one step further, revealing Pureness’ ability to display content on a transparent screen.

The shot of the Pureness’ main menu didn’t reveal a camera icon, so it’s perhaps safe to assume that the phone doesn’t feature one.

The phone’s full technical specifications are still a mystery, although the video reveals the phone’s light-up touch-sensitive keypad and a shot of what we think looks like an SD or Micro SD memory card slot above the SIM card tray.

The Pureness isn’t the first phone to boast transparent qualities – although it may be the first to have a transparent screen. LG has already launched LG GD900 Crystal cameraphone – reviewed here – featuring a transparent keypad. ®
