Shot down by Colt

Communications regulator Ofcom is mainly non-communicative today - its website is down for the second day. Surely nothing to do with problems at Colt?

Colt is still keeping schtum on what caused problems yesterday, and today, but some customers are now being told it was a distributed denial of service attack rather than a cable break that caused the lengthy outage. Colt has not elaborated on its original, rather vague statement.

A spokesman for Ofcom: "We had a problem yesterday with our telecoms provider Colt which had a major outage across Europe and we still don't have full access for the website."

At the time of writing it is just about possible, sometimes, to get a low-bandwidth version of Ofcom's site to load, but don't expect other links to work.

We're guessing that a few people spent yesterday trying to get information on the regulator's likely response to the proposed mega-merger of T-Mobile and Orange. Out of luck there, then... ®
