Gear4 launches first CD-capable kit

IFA Gear4 has gone back to audio basics, launching its first ever products incorporating CD players.

Until now, the company has only offered audio extras designed for Apple’s iPods. Until today, none could play the good old compact disc.
Gear4 has launched four CD Micro Systems: the CDB-50, CDM-100, HP-400 and CDM-500W.
The firm resisted claims that it’s moving backwards and that ‘nobody buys CDs anymore’. Apparently there’s still enough demand for physical music media to warrant the creation of CD-capable music players - eight years after the first iPod launched.
All four new models still support Apple’s iPod range and the iPhone, thanks to a dedicated docking station atop each player. Other features include a remote control for each, a line-in port and FM/AM broadcast pick-up.
The CDM-500W will be out next month
Gear4’s CDB-50, CDM-100 and HP-400 are all available online now, with prices starting at £70 ($80/€114). The CDM-500W will be available next month, but a price hasn’t been announced. ®
