Panasonic's Lumix GF1: lacks a pentaprism

The 12Mp DMC-GF1 measures 119 x 71 x 36.3mm and weighs in at 285g. Yet Panasonic has somehow managed to cram a pop-up flash and 3in LCD into what the camera’s "elegant and compact" body.

Capable of capturing 720p HD video at 30fps, the GF1 stores data movies - and photos - on SD memory cards. Various still images formats, including JPEG and RAW, can be processed, as can HD Motion JPEG and AVCHD videos.

The camera has a built-in flash

The camera’s maximum ISO sensitivity is 3200, Panasonic added.

The GF1 includes all the standard shooting features, such as optical image stabilisation, face detection for up to six people, "intelligent" exposure control and equally smart scene selection – the camera automatically switches shooting mode according to surrounding conditions.

Panasonic’s Lumix DMC-GF1 will be available next month, priced at $900 (£557/€633). A UK price hasn’t been processed. ®
