Microsoft’s motion-controlled gaming peripheral - Project Natal - will arrive “late next year”, the CEO of a major videogames publisher has stated.

THQ’s Brian Farrell reportedly revealed the launch timeframe in a recent company earnings call, when questioned about hardware price cuts and upcoming changes within the gaming market.

“With respect to the cycle itself, if you look at what's happening in the industry, the fact that we have for example, Natal from Microsoft, a platform addition coming late next year”, he said.

The announcement will annoy Microsoft, which has so far resisted calls from gamers to confirm when Project Natal will hit the shops.

Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer made some comments last month, thought, which, at the time, led many to believe that the firm is gunning for a late 2010 launch. However, the firm later retracted Ballmer’s comments, stating simply: “We have not confirmed a launch date at this time”. ®
