Microsoft released the second service pack update to Office 2008 for Apple's Mac platform today.

The software giant said SP2 would improve speed and stability issues in Office for Mac users, who can also expect to see new features added that connect the suite to Microsoft's SharePoint servers and Office Live workspaces.

"With SP2 we are not only delivering on top customer requests midcycle, but also taking a first step in bringing Microsoft software plus services to Mac users," said senior product manager Mike Tedesco, who was keen to make the pudding as eggy as possible.

"This connection unlocks the door for Mac users to Microsoft services for easier collaboration and file sharing with colleagues, customers and classmates," he said.

The new update allows Mac Office customers to save documents to Microsoft's Office Live Workspace.

Additionally the site now helpfully finally supports Safari 4, which is the default browser in the Mac.
