US thesp to attempt audacious tw*tdangle
David Arquette, airborne plastic box, NYC, etc etc
US thesp David Arquette has had an attack of the gitwizards and will this week spend two eight-hour stints in a plastic box suspended above NYC's Madison Square Garden.
Although comparisons with David Blaine's legendary twatdangle are inevitable, our use of the term to describe 37-year-old Arquette's stunt is a little unfair, since the actor is doing his dangling for charity, rather than shameless self-promotion.
Set to benefit from the event is Feeding America, whose mission is to "create a hunger-free America", and which Arquette hopes will be $250,000 better off as a result of his efforts. The suspension takes place tomorrow and Wednesday.
Interestingly, Arquette will not himself go hungry during his 16 hours aloft, since he's apparently "able to eat". We assume he'll therefore be well stocked up on vital nutrition in the form of Snickers bars - sponsors of Feeding America. ®
And the IT angle?
We're glad you asked us that. Arquette isn't the only one doing his bit for the needy. MS is currently also raising cash for Feeding America with its improbably-titled "Browser for the Better" campaign.
The Beast of Redmond explains: "For every completed download of Internet Explorer 8, Microsoft’s Browser for the Better campaign (running today through Aug. 8, 2009) will donate the financial equivalent of eight meals to Feeding America’s network of 206 local food banks, which supplies food to more than 25 million Americans each year."
