The upcoming PlayStation Portable Go is slightly more powerful than previously thought, technical documents filed by maker Sony have revealed.

An extract from Sony's FCC filing reveals the true spec of the PSP Go - aka the PSP-N1001

When the PSP Go was officially unveiled at the E3 videogames show back in June, it was stated that the new handheld console sports a 333MHz processor – the same speed as the PSP 3000’s CPU.

But documents recently filed by Sony with the FFC show that the PSP Go’s CPU actually has a maximum clock frequency of 480MHz.

Exactly what Sony plans to do with this extra capability – if anything – remains a mystery.

But it’s worth remembering that Sony released firmware update 3.50 in May 2007 to up the PSP 1000’s CPU from 222MHz to 333MHz. So there’s always hope… ®
