Recruitment agency CV Screen is seeing a big improvement in job prospects for IT staff.

It reckons there's been a 25 per cent increase in demand in a month for staff and a 27 per cent drop in the number of applicants for each post. CV Screen interprets this as evidence that IT professionals are getting new jobs more quickly.

The agency said PHP, Linux and SharePoint skills were most in demand.

Mathew Iveson, director at CV Screen, said: “Following a tough first quarter to the year, we are seeing signs that optimism is returning to the industry and we fully expect that the second half of the year will be a busier time for the IT jobs market.”

Iveson told the Register demand had been greater for contractors during the first quarter, but now firms are looking for more permanent staff.

A City recruitment contractor told El Reg this week that there had been a bounceback in demand for contractors, adding that this could be treated as leading indicator for a broader revival in the market.

This doesn't seem to have lifted contractors' moods though, with the Reg mailbag still bulging with missives bemoaning the lack of work out there, when they're not bemoaning pay cuts by their employers.®
