HSBC customers are still struggling to access the banks' online service after we reported on Friday that the company was having technical trouble with its system.

The Register has heard from plenty of disgruntled users of HSBC’s online banking system this morning, who find themselves still locked out of the service.

El Reg reader Simon contacted us about HSBC’s latest technical cockup.

“Why has HSBC's internet banking gone titsup? Having tried both personal and business internet banking, I phoned the (un)help desk and was told that the techies were working on the issue and internet banking should be back in a couple of hours. What's going on?”

Some users reported that the system had been returning internal server errors for much of the morning, but added HSBC had failed to provide any status on its website about the current outage to its service.

"Despite the boffins at HSBC knowing of connection issues on Friday and having had all weekend to scratch their heads, nothing seems to have been done. Monday morning, same old problem. Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!", wrote another reader.

Late last week HSBC confirmed to us it was having “intermittent” problems with its online banking system for users of business and personal account users. But it didn’t reveal what had gone wrong.

We’ve once again asked the firm to provide more information on the difficulties it’s been having with its service, and to tell us when the problem might be fully resolved.

A spokeswoman gave us this statement: "HSBC had been experiencing intermittent issues with internet banking this morning, however the service is now functioning properly again.

"HSBC is investigating the cause of the problem and apologises to its customers for any inconvenience this has caused." ®
