Impatience is a virtue - at least according to Samsung, which has launched the super-stylish Jet mobile phone that, supposedly, “epitomises speed” and boasts a “super-fast processor”.

Although we’d argue that Jet’s 3.6Mb/s HSDPA 3G is hardly groundbreaking, the phone’s 800MHz processor is rather impressive. The iPhone 3G S, for example, only sports a 600MHz processor.

Jet has another ace up its sleeve. According to Samsung, the phone’s 3.1in WVGA touchscreen – capable of reproducing 16m colours – provides a resolution that’s “four times higher” than most widescreen touchphones sport.

Featuring the manufacturer’s widget-based TouchWiz UI – as seen on both the Tocco and Omnia — Jet’s web experience is based around Samsung’s Dolfin internet browser. The browser is apparently capable of blocking out annoying adverts and of enabling single-finger navigation.

Jet’s Wi-Fi compatibility also provides you with an alternative means of web connection – handy for times when 3G isn’t available.

It’s disappointing to see that Jet only has a 5Mp camera, partially since rivals - including Sony Ericsson – are already up to 12Mp cameraphones. However, the phone’s camera does support face detection, smile shot, blink detection and geo-tagging. Video capture’s also possible.

Pictures and videos can either be stored onto Jet’s internal 2GB storage capacity or shoved off onto Micro SD cards of up to 16GB. Data can be moved around using the phone’s Micro USB port or Bluetooth 2.1.

The phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack and supports a selection of audio formats, including MP3, AAC and WMA. Supported video formats include WMV, MPEG 4 and H.264.

Samsung’s Jet is available now for free through Vodafone, provided you sign a £20 ($32/€23) per month contract. ®
