A North Carolina man is accused of arranging to have his wife raped through the personal ads section of Craigslist.

The victim, whose name has not been released, called 911 emergency services early Sunday morning and reported a knife-wielding assailant had sexually assaulted her in the bedroom of her Kannapolis home. Police say the husband was in the room at the time of the attack. Their two young children were also home, but unaware of the incident, according to police.

The Associated Press reports investigators became suspicious of the husband when he gave conflicting statements about the attack and it became apparent that there were no signs of forced entry at the house.

Police reportedly confiscated the husband's computer and handed it over to the US Secret Service. Days later, authorities say they discovered the 25-year-old husband had responded to at least two ads on Craigslist to arrange for someone to come to his home and have sex with is wife using a "scare tactic." It was without the wife's knowledge or consent, police said.

The husband has been charged with first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sexual offense, and attempted first-degree sexual offense. He was jailed Wednesday on $200,000 bond.

Authorities are still investigating the identity of the rape suspect, but say they are pursuing a "good lead." North Carolina news station WSOC TV reports police are currently not sure if the man was aware the sexual assault was not a consensual act.

"We share the public's horror that such a crime was committed, and our heart goes out to the victim," a Craigslist spokeswoman told the AP. ®
