A Nintendo DSi videogame’s in development that’ll use “augmented reality” technology to help you communicate with ghosts.

Ghostwire uses the DSi's camera to superimpose ghosts onto screen shots

Ghostwire, from Swedish outfit A Different Game, uses the handheld console’s integrated camera to superimpose in-game ghosts over the view seen by the lens.

The result? The DSi apparently becomes a portal to the astral plane where you must find and collect ghosts existing all around you.

The ultimate aim is to help set each ghost free by documenting their presence and discovering why they haunt your world.

Gamers will also have several other ghost busting tools at their disposal, including the DSi’s microphone – presumably so you can chat to the dead, and a frequency modulator for tuning into ghosts.

Anders Bergman, Lead Game Designer of Ghostwire, claimed that the DSi’s the perfect platform to use because it “allows us to enhance the integrated real-world experience with the combination of camera, microphone and touch screen”.

A launch date for Ghostwire on the DSi hasn’t emerged yet. ®
