A hard drive containing more than 1 terabyte of sensitive data from the Clinton administration, including the personal information of White House staff and visitors, is missing from the US National Archives.

One of the social security numbers lost in the breach belonged to a daughter of former Vice President Al Gore, according to the Associated Press. Other information included logs of events, social gatherings, and political records.

A representative of former President Bill Clinton has already been notified of the breach, and federal employees plan to warn other former White House staff soon, a spokeswoman said.

The drive was located in an unsecured workspace while Archives employees were in the process of digitizing information from the Clinton administration. About 100 badge-holders had access to the area, which was also available to janitors, visitors, and employees passing through to access the bathroom. It was stolen sometime between October and March.

The FBI is conducting a criminal investigation, and the inspector general of the National Archives and Records Administration is also carrying out a criminal probe. Members of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee blasted the breach as "egregious." ®
