Blogtastic web 2.0 Pre marketing plan unveiled
Palm is looking to harness the blogosphere to promote the Pre, offering free devices and six-month's connectivity to those willing to keep the Web 2.0 crowd updated about their experience.
Only Americans aged over 18 are eligible to become "Real Reviewers" - as opposed to those fake chaps over at Hard Reg - and you'll need to know your Facebook from your Technorati, not to mention being mobile-phone obsessed. But if you fit the profile then there's an on-line survey you can fill in to place an application.
Palm has stated, several times, that it has enough money to launch the Pre, and it obviously plans to spend some of that cash appealing to bloggers and twits in the hope they'll say favourable things about the last-chance product, though you can bet they'll pull the plug pretty quickly if someone is resolutely rude about their baby.
Real Reviewers who are good enough might even find themselves invited to comment on Palm's Facebook page - much cheaper than paying people, but probably enough to encourage true fans.
It does make some sense - with social networking being so central to the Pre experience, but whether potential buyers can be swayed by 140-character recommendations is more open to question, even if Palm points out that such things are considered a suitable format for Shakespeare these days. ®
