Sony has launched a self-cleaning TV, of sorts, that, it claimed, produces the smoothest and clearest motion reproduction of any Bravia to date.
Sony's Bravia Z5500: self-cleaning, kind of
OK, so the Z5500 won’t actually dust itself down and polish its screen each day, but it does feature what Sony calls Image Blue Reduction technology.
This, Sony said, works with the set’s 200Hz MotionFlow technology to “clean” the original frames before a new frame’s inserted. The result is a super sharp image and reduced motion blur, apparently.
The set also features an array of eco-friendly settings on its PlayStation-derived XMB menu. These help you set, say, the screen’s auto shut-off timer – which Register Hardware’s previously reported turns off the screen, but not the sound, if no viewer movement’s detected for a set period of time.
A swivel base - the icing on the cake
All the features you’d expect as standard are included on the Z5500. These include a full HD resolution, an integrated digital tuner, DLNA home-networking support and four HDMI ports. You’ll even get a USB port and a swivel stand.
Available as a 40in, 46in or 52in screen, the set’s also said to have a minimalistic frame so as not to intrude on your viewing pleasure.
Sony’s Bravia Z5500 will be available in June, with prices starting at £1800 ($2678/€2008). ®
