BackWeb Technologies is suing Microsoft for infringement of four of the company’s patents.

The firm filed a lawsuit against the software giant on 20 March with the US District Court in San Francisco.

BackWeb has accused Microsoft’s Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS), Windows Update and other products of infringing four of its patents.

The Israel and San Jose, California-based firm said it is seeking damages, an injunction and a declaration by the court that “Microsoft’s software update technologies infringe BackWeb patents.”

BackWeb describes itself as a “pioneer” in the so-called internet “push” communications technology. It has been developing the tech since 1995.

Microsoft wasn’t immediately available for comment at time of writing. ®
