The Gunners - Arsenal to non-footie fans - and Sony have confirmed plans to stream match highlights to fans equipped with PlayStation Portables at the team's Emirates stadium.

Sony and Arsenal have been trialling the service – thought to be called S.PORT – at the North London ground since early 2007. But the Japanese electronics giant’s Director of Retail, Transport and Venues, Eric Siereveld, has now told Reuters that the facility should be available to ticket holders inside 18 months.

In addition to watching the match live from a cold plastic seat, gadget-laden footie fans will also be able to watch a stream of the game on a PSP screen. Game statistics and replays will even be available, giving everyone another opportunity to criticise the ref’s decision.

Siereveld added that the PSP system may also allow fans to create in-game communities, although hopefully not the type that smash-up the rival team’s minibus. ®
